Amazon.com Review The first edition of this workbook is regarded as a classic in its field, and was the first book to introduce trigger point therapy to the general public as a self-care tool for alleviating chronic pain caused by a variety of conditions, including arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, headache, muscle ache, and repetitive strain injuries. As the author makes clear, all such conditions are related to lack of oxygen in exhausted or injured muscle tissue. Trigger point therapy has been used for decades by doctors, pain specialists, and massage therapists to quickly stimulate the flow of oxygen and promote rapid pain reduction. This book makes the same techniques available to the general public with instructions that are easy to follow, and abetted by an extensive collection of charts and corresponding illustrations. The authors interest in trigger point therapy began when he used it to successfully treat his frozen shoulder. Since that time, he has dedicated himself to teaching others the same techniques. That dedication is obvious throughout his writing and the care he takes to make the therapy understandable to the lay public. Also included in this new edition is updated information that should be of great interest to pain specialists and bodyworkers, as well as useful instruction in a variety of relaxation techniques. Overall, this book is an excellent self-care resource for anyone interested in pain relief.--Larry Trivieri Jr.
Product Description Trigger point therapy is one of the most intriguing and fastest-growing bodywork styles in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists are all beginning to use this technique to relieve formerly undiagnosable muscle and joint painâconditions that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits. The technique involves applying short, repeated massage strokes to trigger points, tiny contraction knots in muscle tissue where restricted circulation and lack of oxygen cause referred pain. Trigger points create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. Trigger point massage increases circulation and oxygenation in the area and often produces instant relief. This dynamic technique has made a huge impact among health professionals and the public alike, becoming an overnight classic in the field of pain relief. The book has sold over 220,000 copies since the release of the first edition in 2001. The second edition is a complete update and includes a new chapter specifically for massage professionals, as well as a chapter on systematic muscle relaxation techniques that can reinforce the therapeutic power of trigger point work.

Very detailed; requires highly motivated individual August 31, 2010 M. Edwards (Missouri) Very detailed, informative book. I appreciate the author's passion and knowledge on the subject. She offers a real solution for what modern medicine sees as a disease that can only be medicated away. However, you must have some motivation to apply these techniques on yourself. Don't get discouraged if you're VERY sore the next day as I was.
healing August 30, 2010 emjo I am happy to share with the world the amazing benefits of healing I have derived from applying the information and therapies within the covers of this amazing book. I would definitly recommend anyone suffering from constant pain in the arm or back or anywhere externally. It feels muscular or like a nerve pain. Anyway I no longer suffer, Praise God, for this book.
I feel alive again August 30, 2010 Misty I love this book. I was suffering from a chronic neck pain that affected my everyday life. I could no longer exercise and was in constant pain. After visiting an orthopedic doctor, I was told that I had arthritis in my neck and advised to do exercises to improve my range of motion. After weeks of this, and there was some improvement, I was then told there was nothing more I could do, and would have to live with this. I was not willing to live my life like this - I was much too active. I told my brother and he recommended this book and described how it changed his life. He lent me the book and I immediately read and was hooked. I have been practicing what I read and had to have the book for myself. It is a great reference book. I am back to exercising again and my pain has subsided. When it flares up, I immediately go back to the therapy and in no time, I find relief. Thanks for writing such a great, easy to understand book that has given me a greater appreciation of alternative methods that work.
Review: Trigger Point Therapy workbook August 26, 2010 Joy Patwardhan Wonerful book! Extremely helpful! It arrived in a timely manner and I am very pleased with it. I am recommending this book, from Amazon, to all family members and friends. My son ordered it--received so much help that he told me to order it immediately! I am so thankful that I did.
Do you suffer from chronic pain but nobody can tell you why then BUY THIS BOOK!!!!! August 22, 2010 Jessica (Chicago) I'm 33 years old and I have suffered from chronic back pain for the past two years and I have FINALLY found relief-thanks SO MUCH to Clair Davies for writing this book!! Over the past 2 years I have been to three different doctors, three different physical therapists and several massage therapists. The pain never went away. I had x-rays and an MRI done to check for back problems. 'Nothing' was wrong with me. There was no diagnosis. I knew everyone was beginning to think I was crazy/psychosomatic. I was beginning to think I was too. My current doctor told me that my only option for treatment was painkillers. Having been an athlete and a fairly active person for most of my life I just couldn't accept that there wasn't some way to correct this problem. I knew my body pretty well and knew that something was off but no one could tell me what that was so I kept doing my own research online. I came across Davies book about a year ago and was skeptical. I wish I would have bought it then. I finally decided to give it a try about a week ago and I'm already feeling the relief. I'm not 100 percent yet but it's only been a week and these trigger points have taken quite a toll on my body for the last two years so I think it's going to take some time to heal completely and I don't know if I'll ever be in the shape I was in a few years ago but at least Davies has given me the knowledge and tools to begin treating and fixing my soft tissue problems.
I think the book is very easy to understand and one can begin treating themselves almost immediately after some cursory reading. I recommend going to the chapter for whichever part of the body you are having problems with, look at the diagrams and find the area in which you are experiencing pain and then massage those trigger points associated with that pain. Follow Davies guidelines on how to massage the trigger points but listen to your body and do what feels right and best. You may need more or less depending on your body. In my experience (and Davies says this too), you should feel a tightness/pain/tenderness where that trigger point exists. That's how you know you're actually getting to it. I do my trigger point therapy 2-3 times a day, more on the weekends, and massage the trigger points around 6 times each or sometimes more. My pain has been on my left side and I have been focusing on my piriformis and neck trigger points on my left side. Only one week of self-treatment and the left side of my body has opened up tremendously. The left side of my body is starting to feel more and more normal and stronger everyday. I will update you on my progress in a few weeks.
I don't normally write reviews but I felt it was very important for me to say something about how this book has helped me. Before this treatment I thought it was over. I was so depressed and I really believed that I was going to have to put up with the pain for the rest of my life. Now I have hope again and that means so much to me.
So please know that this is true and honest review and if you're a person who suffers from mysterious chronic pain, give this book a try. Even if it turns out that this treatment doesn't correct your problems, it's worth a try for only 20 bucks. In my opinion it's invaluable. I wish general practitioners knew more about and recommended this kind of treatment. Then again I guess that means less money for the drug companies but that's a topic for another day!
To Davies and the pioneers who came before him-words can not express my gratitude.
